Applications
Power and Process Flexibility
Planetary mixers are commonly used for processing high viscosity industrial mixtures and semi-solid formulations. They are particularly well-suited for handling viscous, sticky, thick, or heavy materials. Specific recommended applications include:
- Compounding viscous formulations
- Vacuum drying powder blends
- Preparing granulations
- Dry blending
- Wet granulation
- Processing pastes, gels, and dough-like compounds
- Mixing almost non-flowable semi-solids (e.g. icing, jellies, chewable candies)
- Handling products up to around 6-8 million cP viscosity (depending on blade configuration)
- Applications requiring thorough folding and kneading action
- Highly-filled applications requiring ultra-fine dispersion quality (for hybrid planetary mixers)
Planetary mixers provide very thorough mixing action regardless of product rheology, constantly recombining and moving materials throughout the vessel. They are valued for their ability to handle challenging high viscosity applications that other mixer types may struggle with. When selecting a planetary mixer, it's important to consider the specific viscosity range, dispersion requirements, and mixing goals of your particular process.
